If you read a lot of texts that aren't available in hard copy: manuscripts, self-pubbed e-books, etc., an e-reader would be indispensable. I also think it would be a great a great addition to writing workshops, where 20 copies of 100 pages are being printed, read, and commented on every week.

And you fast readers, I hear you. Every once in a while I get a project at work that only uses the automaton part of my brain, so I guess having someone read to me, slowly and with enunciation, is just a pleasant way to pass the time. It's no good for all of your attention, but it's lovely for when you have a few hours of mindless labor ahead of you.Marie Devershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09410825838254396691noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239332589974235100.post-38676778262196587972009-12-04T21:35:53.169-05:002009-12-04T21:35:53.169-05:00I listen to them on car trips. It drove me a bit crazy. I think I devour books. Maybe I should learn to slow down and smell the literary roses.Laura Miller Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04219526195841044152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239332589974235100.post-46473566458233791592009-12-04T01:09:26.558-05:002009-12-04T01:09:26.558-05:00As a Librarian and aspiring writer, I am more a lu...As a Librarian and aspiring writer, I am more a luddite than a fast adapter. But that's just me.

I don't own a Kindle and won't until the prices come down. For writing, I love my MacBook Pro. But for reading, I'm more the book-in-the-hand type of gal. I don't listen to audio CDs much although I should. A couple of really nice sales reps sent me some audio books and I listened to them while I recuperated (some MG novels and YA novels, of course, and this was back in 2005 so it was titles like Inkspell, and Eldest, neither of which I'd recommend). Otherwise, I have no patience for audio books. Like Megan, I'm a very fast reader and want to go at my own pace. I also find it easier to visualize what's going on in a book if I can see the words, for some reason.

I do, however, read several books at once, usually one at home and one at work on my lunch breaks. Don't own a Kindle, and never plan to buy one (That nasty Amazon will be the death of Indie bookstores).Joanne R. But I think the other thing is that I'm a really fast reader, and I'm afraid that the slow pace of listening to someone read would drive me nuts.
I'll need to try it out one day, just to see how I like it.MeganRebekahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03285116194891827858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239332589974235100.post-70113477495979506652009-12-03T13:30:02.111-05:002009-12-03T13:30:02.111-05:00I share your reading program (except I don't h...I share your reading program (except I don't have a Kindle).
